Project: SHIVAM Since: 1992 Target Population: Men who have sex with Men (MSM) & TGs Shivam was started way back in 1992, when a few like minded MSM (men who have sex with men) friends came together to work for High Risk Youth groups., the infection rate in India was then gradually going up, there was no availability of correct information, lack of services to and all other factors put together made these men very vulnerable to HIV At this point of time these few friends came together and started sensitization programme on HIV/AIDS under the banner name of UDAAN, with the High Risk youth group. As by then the infection rate in India had gradually started going up. Condoms were not available easily the social stigma attached to condoms made it even more difficult to buy condoms and it used to be stolen and distributed to those friends who were involved into High Risk Behaviour. Today, Udaan-Shivam has a well established Drop-In centre exclusively for MSM providing a range of services for the community members. Udaan has reached more than 60,000 MSM members till date.
